SistahGirl: Black Women & HIV/AIDS is a documentary project featuring the lives of HIV positive Black women from the US, with some traveling to sub-Saharan Africa to meet HIV positive African women activists to exchange ideas about prevention, treatment, physical, and spiritual healing.
SistahGirl will also examine the complex reasons behind the high rates of infection in this population including: poverty and discrimination; self-esteem and self love; and a culture of silence around sexuality in the Black community.
The documentary looks at what effects sexual stereotyping and negative historical views on Blacks and sexuality could have on decisions one makes today regarding sex. Some of the world’s leading researchers and activists assist the framing of the conversation to illuminate the complexity of the HIV pandemic from a social, political, medical and historical point of view. |
